Once the offense has the ball inside the 18-yard box, offsides cannot be called.
Offsides is meant to be a deterrent to goal-hanging. Once the offense has the ball that close to the opponent's net, goal-hanging is not an issue. The 18-yard box would be the equivalent of the blue line in hockey.
